Lahaina Aquatic Center reopens its doors more than 1 year after wildfire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Now 14 months after the wildfires, the Lahaina Aquatic Center has reopened to swimmers.
The county said it took nearly 100 volunteers and more than 800 hours to re-paint the center and clean up ash and debris from its eight-lane, 50-meter by 25-yard competition pool.
While the structure wasn’t damaged, it was without electricity or water for months because it is located within the Lahaina Impact Zone.
The county also installed a new chlorine system and tested the water quality to ensure it was safe and operable.
